Chats
[Intro] In this lesson, we’ll be discussing setting up Chats for your app. Let’s get started.
[Editor] Chats are crucial for user interaction within the app. By adding the Chat feature, you enable users to send messages, which you can then respond to.
To enable Chats, go to the Platfio editor, click on Navigation, then Left-Hand menu, and press add. Next, type 'Chat' in the search bar and click on the checkbox once you find it. Then, press add and save.
[Emulator] Now that we have added Chat to the left-hand side menu, let's now test it from the user's perspective using the emulator.
Open the left side hand menu. We will see that the Chat link we have added is available. Click on it. Let’s then send a message as a customer.
[Manager] As a staff, if you want to see the messages sent by the user, let’s go to the Platfio Manager tab. Then all of our user’s chat messages can be viewed in Chats.
The app will automatically create a list of outstanding chat conversations with users.
We can click a user in the list to respond and then press the back button to go back.
You can also start a chat manually by searching for a user in the Manager, clicking on them, and selecting Chat from their profile.
If you need to review other information about the user to make a more informed response, you can conveniently click on the user’s icon on the top right to quickly go to the User Manager.
Common inquiries for example are for orders or bookings, and once we’re done investigating, we can then go back and respond based on the information we’ve found.
Once the message is fully dealt with, we can press the Archive button and confirm that the message is resolved.
After archiving a chat, you can still access it by navigating to the Platfio Manager, selecting User Manager, searching for the user and clicking on the user, and then clicking on Chat.
We can then send a message to the user to initiate a conversation. When we send a chat message, the user will receive a push notification which they can click on to re-engage with the conversation.
[Chat settings] We can also go to “Editor”, “Settings”, and “Chat”. Then under the manager tab, these are the notifications that the user gets when you send them a chat message.
You can also go to Theme, and go to Notifications. This is for the notifications that you and your team get as an “Admin” when someone sends a chat message.
[Outro] Thank you for watching!
