Segments (Marketing)
[Intro] In this lesson, we’ll be discussing Segments. In particular, Segments for Marketing.
Segments allow you to divide your users into groups for a variety of reasons. This lesson will focus more on how we can use Segments for Marketing. Let’s get started.
[Editor] To create a Segment, let's first add a collection. Click on the Platfio editor, then click Segments. You will be directed to the Segment Collections Editor page where you can manage and organize all the Segments for your app.
To add a new Collection, click on the plus button to access the Segment Collection editor. Let's name this collection, Demographics, and press save.
Once you’ve created a collection, let’s create a new segment. Click on the plus button at the top right. This will open the Segment Editor.
Let’s say we want to group users into Men and Women. Let’s name this first segment “Men”, then press the plus button to have this added.
Let’s go back to the Demographics Segment Collection and press the plus button. Then, let’s name our second segment “Women” and add.
The ways that you can segment your users are extensive. You can segment based on products they purchase, bookables they book, subscribables they subscribe to, forms that they submit, pages and tools that they interact with and automations that run in their account.
To learn how to do this, see the individual videos for each of these features.
[Manager] Once you have made a Segment, you can manually add a user to it by going to the Platfio Manager and clicking Users. In the Users Manager, you search for a particular user and click on it. Then, click on Segments and turn on the toggle next to the segment we want to add them in.
In the Users Manager, we can also filter our users by segment, look for the Demographics collection, then click on either of the segments beside it. Let’s click on “Men” and we can see the list of users that are in that segment. What we can also do is click on the Demographics collection, and we can see a board of users across all the different segments in that collection.
Segments are useful for marketing. Let’s say we want to send push notifications to a group of users in a particular segment. In the Platfio Manager, click on Marketing, then, click on Push. The same process also works for email, and SMS.
Click on the plus button to create a new push notification. Then, give it a title and text. We can then click on Audiences, choose a segment, and in the Segment section, select Men and either send or schedule the notification.
[Outro] Thank you for watching!
