Shipping Methods
Shipping Methods
INTRO Hello and welcome. In this lesson, we’ll be discussing setting up and managing your app’s shipping method. Let’s get started. EDITOR/EMULATOR The first thing you need to do is to set up Products. To learn how to do that, check out our lesson video for Products. To enable shipping, go to the Platfio Editor and click on Settings, Store, Shipping, and Setup. Then, turn on the toggle for Require Shipping Selection. You can also change the shipping display name. For example, we might change it to 'delivery' if we’re more of a local business. We also have the option to toggle on the ship notification. This sends a notification to the user once their order is marked as shipped. Once it’s toggled on, we can put in the notification message. (So excited for you. Your order is on the way.) Finally, press Save to enable shipping in the app. Next, let’s set up our shipping methods by going back to Shipping and clicking on Methods. First, set up a Standard Delivery that’s $10 and inclusive of tax. Let’s say that this method requires an address. We’ll look at how the address is configured in a moment. For now, let’s proceed to the Disabled tab. We can toggle Disabled on if this shipping method temporarily becomes unavailable. Then, we can write a message here. Let’s leave this off for now. Next, we can also set a price hurdle. For example, let’s say that this shipping method is free if the price is over $150. Let’s also leave this off for now. Finally, let’s go to the Restrict Use tab. We can restrict this shipping method to certain countries, or only show this to a specific segment of users or a specific store location. For example, an only show segment could be used to create an Amazon Prime style shipping arrangement where certain high value customers are all placed into a segment, and we only show a free shipping option to those high value customers. Alternatively, if someone purchases a subscription and placed into a premium members segment, we have the option to only show a free shipping option to them. Let’s save our standard shipping method for all members and add our Premium Members Free Shipping. Set the price to zero and have the Requires Address toggled on, then we’ll restrict this to only our premium members and press add to save. Let’s add one more and in this case, maybe we allow people to pick up their order from our store. Let’s add the name, then in this case, the price will be zero and we can toggle off the requires address. Turning it off is extremely important because when people are checking out, it won’t prompt them to add their address. Then press add to save. We recommend arranging these in a convenient way so what we might do is put our standard delivery first and then pick up in store, then premium delivery. The final thing we can do is we can go to address configuration. This allows us to set up how we would like our users to input their shipping details. We can toggle on the Name if we want to force users to re-input their name into the address. Bear in mind that the name is already in the account, and this is not recommended except in the case of very sensitive parcels. Similarly, we might want to toggle on Co if we ship a lot of B2B items and allow a care of to be added to the shipping address. However, it is not necessarily recommended. The Address and the City are standard, as is the postcode and the country. If you only ship within a certain country, you may not need to collect the country. It is an extra piece of information would have to provide. However, it might be good practice to collect that as well. Finally, you can turn on map and allow the user to select their location on a map. This isn’t necessarily recommended for shipping. It’s more so provided there as an option for businesses who want to offer delivery, where they might want to point to a specific point on a map. Now, with some of these, you’ll notice that there is a default option, so if you want the city to default to Melbourne, for example, because the majority of your customers are in Melbourne and it’s 3006 or 3000. Similarly, you can set up a default country as say Australia, and a default point on the map, which we might go ahead and do down here. If you are using the map, it is advisable to set a default, and the reason for this is it will center the user on the map around the default point that you set. Let’s leave that off for now and press save. Now, let’s have a quick look at what our checkout looks like from the perspective of our users. Let’s add a product to our order, go to checkout, and we’ll see here we have all the shipping methods that we’ve created. Let’s go ahead and pick standard and we’ll notice that because we’ve set it up to require an address, we’re required to put in one. As you can see, we have our defaults that have come up, all we must do is add an address (123 example) and press add. This address will persistently be added to the user’s account. Let’s go back and choose pick up in store instead. You’ll notice that because Requires Address is turned off for this method, it does not prompt us to input an address. Users can then press checkout.
